Spencer Lynn, Writer:

"MOONRISE is dedicated to all of us who have ever felt lost in our own darkness, and those who have helped us get out of it.

What began as me pacing a hole in my bedroom floor trying to figure out how the heck to write a show, has turned into us presenting a full draft version of the show before it’s even two years old. This would never have been possible without so many people. All of my friends who answered ‘yes’ to a random text saying ‘Hey I know this sounds crazy but I started writing a musical… wanna do a reading?’. All of my mentors who took me seriously when, during the start of my senior year as a musical theatre major, I called them all up and said ‘I may not be very good right now but dang it I think I’m meant to write shows!’ Our incredible cast and crew, who have all given me - and this show - so much more of their time and talents than I ever could have asked for. Throughout our almost two years of creating MOONRISE, many roadblocks have come our way. Many of them were out of our control and some of them were in our control. But throughout it all, everyone gave priority to the story we are trying to tell. What more could a writer want?
To everyone watching this production, thank you. To everyone reading this letter, thank you. To everyone who has ever felt trapped in a world without light, may we all find our own reasons to shine."

Abby Wright, Director:

"Fighting dragons with swords, using magic, getting rid of the bad guy, and saving the day. MOONRISE takes all of us back and reminds us of the joy of “playing pretend”; a reason that so many of us decided to dedicate our lives to telling stories through the theatre to begin with. This magical story effortlessly transports audiences into a world that touches our inner-child and helps us realize that it is not only okay, but necessary to feed that inner-child more often. MOONRISE teaches us to be imaginative, brave, and to dream your wildest dreams.

What you may also find is a looming sense of darkness and sadness in juxtaposition with all of the beauty and magic: sounds kind of like real life, right? MOONRISE uses child-like storytelling tactics to explore real issues that we as humans face each day. So come and watch with an open mind and heart. Be ready to laugh, cry, learn, and be fully immersed in a show that I genuinely believe will change you for the better as you watch. It has been the highlight of my Shenandoah experience to direct this show, and I am so honored and excited to show you all the world premiere of MOONRISE: a new musical."
