ABOUT

MOONRISE is a tale of a Boy and a Girl in a kingdom of darkness. Lit only by the moon, the two children set out on their own journeys to try and bring back the light, but find something more important along the way. Packed with themes for all ages and walks of life, this fantastical show will leave you feeling encouraged by those you love and empowered to unlock who you are destined to become.

In November of 2019, writer Spencer Lynn began conceptualizing for a new musical. He didn’t know much besides the fact that he wanted to create something fantastical, relatable, and touching. The show picked up as Lynn began to write in late 2020 and brought Laurel Hinton as executive producer. The pair began to hold developmental workshops and find ways for the show to be seen with the help of producer-dramaturg, Brandon Cameron. As Act 1 was completed, MOONRISE premiered at Shenandoah University’s ShencoLab, a weeklong festival of student work, to a packed audience of people asking for more of the show. It’s successful condensed preview has paved the way to what is now a full-length new musical entering the next phase of it’s developmental stage as we prepare for a world premiere May 6-8 in Virginia.

Over the course of the show's two years of life, the three person team has turned into a group of thirty-eight artists (and counting) who are helping bring MOONRISE to life. The team has big plans for this piece, from releasing the first cast album later in 2022 to having industry workshops to determine how to adjust the piece for regional theaters or Theater for Young Audience settings. The heartbeat of their work as a group is to get this timeless story of hope and friendship to reach as many audiences as possible.
